The Forest Service granted me a filming permit good through the end of the year, for a grand total of $150. When I spoke to the lady on the phone and she told me it was going to be $150 I was worried for a second that it was per day! I was relieved to hear it was for the year! I should have the permit in hand sometime next week.
In addition to a permit, I need to carry liability insurance on this project and name the United States as additionally insured. A one year policy costs $350. Having an insurance agent living across the street made the paperwork easy. Thanks neighbor!
Thus far I have spent $500 of the generous donations I have received from my contributors. If you haven't seen the "contributors" page, I have them all listed. Thanks to them I don't have to wait a couple paychecks for my insurance and permit!
Now to just wait for winter to let go of its grip. As I type this our annual April blizzard here in the U.P. has dumped 7 inches of snow between last night and this morning. I'm not worried, it will melt soon. Then this film and I can officially start our life together.
